Best Super Bowl Commercials 2009

My nominees for this year’s best. (in no particular order)
PEDIGREE – “Maybe you should get a dog?”
DORITOS – “The Power of the Crunch”
DORITOS – “Free Doritos? Crystal ball says YES!”
CAREERBUILDER – “Hey Dummy!”
NFL – Snow cone vendor gets fired and returns as NFL player.
CASH4GOLD – “Herrrrrrre’s Money!”
VIZIO – “Except for you Mr. President.”
HULU – Alec Baldwin. Funny but kinda weird and creepy.
Hyundai – “Like Sunday”

PEDIGREE – “Maybe you should get a dog?”
A rhino named Rusty, an ostrich named Bruno, a warthog and a bull are REALLY BAD pets.  Dogs are GOOD pets.  Help Pedigree help dogs.  Funny, warm and fuzzy, remarkable.

DORITOS – “The Power of the Crunch”
Doritos are REALLY CRUNCHY.  Crunchy is REALLY GOOD.  Run out of Doritos and you’ll get run over by a bus!  I like crunchy snacks and I love Doritos.  Funny, remarkable.

DORITOS – “Free Doritos? Crystal ball says YES!”
Funny, some shock value that is tied directly to the product.  So overall very good and very remarkable.

CAREERBUILDER – “Hey Dummy”
Is it time for a new job?  Great commercial in its 30-second version.  Very annoying as a :60 though.

NFL SUPER AD – Snow cone vendor gets fired and returns as NFL player.
Funny and heart-warming.  Not really advertising anything except the NFL and served as an interactive web pre-promotion element.

CASH4GOLD – “Herrrrrrre’s Money!”
Ed McMahon and MC Hammer finally get another job, as spokesmen for Cash4Gold.  Probably C4G’s first legitimate commercial.  I laughed out loud actually.  Hopefully the $260k spot pays off for them.

VIZIO – “Except for you Mr. President.”
Great commercial that will ACTUALLY SELL SOMETHING.  The spot acknowledges that the new president IS watching the game.  Smart move since it ties their brand to the presidents current hype.  Remarkable.

HULU – “TV won’t rot your brain, well kinda”
Alec Baldwin is funny but kind of creepy, which is normal for him.  Great spot co-branding NBC.com and Hulu.com that will ACTUALLY DRIVE WEB TRAFFIC.

HYUNDAI – “Like Sunday”
Great spot that masterfully toots their own horn.  Usually you wanna talk about the consumer but Hyundai did this spot in a way that 1.) directly calls out their competitors and 2.) doesn’t it in a funny, entertaining way.  Well done.
